I've taken a photo of one of my grandchildren and opened into PSE.I've played around with it to give it a "painted" appearance and "saved as" back into its folder. When I try to open it again PSE won't recognise it.I can open it up with Paint net but I want to take the editing a stage further with the "tools" that PSE have. Can anyone explain what has happened please. Thanks
ps I've tried other photos, but with no luck.

I can't believe that PSE lets you save it in a format that it can't then load so what is the format of the edited/saved version and what is the format of the original?

Also, what version of PSE are you using? (I've got v11)
Question Author
The original is JPEG the edited version is JPG and I also tried "all formats"
I'm using PSE 7 Thanks for your quick reply.
Hmmm. I have just opened a JPEG file, applied an artistic filter and done a 'save as' without changing the default options - thus saving it as a JPG - and I have no problems with subsequently opening that edited version.

At the moment I can't think of any straws to try clutching.
File could be corrupted ?
What size does the file say it is ?
Have you run a disk check on the drive ?
Will the file open in a different photo viewer ?
I trust you saved it with a different name or to a different place than your original ?

That's basically what I did,if you find some straws to clutch I'd be grateful.Thanks.

Hi OG I've tried it with a few files I hope that they are not all corrupt.
File size is 143KB
The file opens in a different prog.ie Paint net
It was saved in a different name.
What disk check were you referring to? Thanks
have you tried right clicking the file and selecting 'Open With' and choosing PSE?
Is it the same if you save the edited version in a different format e.g. bmp or png?

Hello slackalice I tried your reply but with no luck.I tried three other progs. and it opened in each of them.Out of desperation I tried PSE again and it opened up.gawd knows what's going on.Let's hope it continues. Thanks everyone for your answers
glad to hear that it now works
Any disk check. Windows supply a basic one.

Glad it finally opened. Save the files in a number of places as different formats to lower risk of loss.
