E Mail Problem
29 Answers
i am trying to send e mails to those not in my contact list on the desktop
and it will only bring up those listed in contacts, for i.e if i want to
send an e mail to john smith not in contact list it won't do it.
it just lists those under j - so i try and compose an e mail to john smith and can't do it. Anyone know how to resolve this please.

If you save your laptop copy onto a folder on your desktop, you can't then see that copy from other devices

There are 3 ways to get your emails.
Webmail - this is when you login via Firefox etc.
Email program or app - eg. Thunderbird. Access is either by POP or IMAP
POP - your email program contacts the mail server and pulls any mail onto the computer you are using, removing the mail from the server. Copies of messages you send are stored on the computer you are using.
IMAP - your email program contacts the server and shows you what messages are waiting for you. They are not copied to the computer - so if you then use another computer or tablet etc. both will see the messages. What you send is stored on the server not on the computer.
Gmail can be setup to check other email accounts - so you could have it check the talktalk address and show its messages in the gmail inbox. You can also set it up to send from the talktalk account.
If you use an email program such as Thunderbird, set up both email accounts on it making sure that the gmail is set up as IMAP - you can then transfer messages from talktalk to Gmail.
Webmail can't access your address list if its only on the computer - the addresses need to be stored in the gmail account.

not sure understand what is going on, it might be the shop guy who tried to do the connectivity to the emails in the new mobile, but i cannot compose e mails in main Talktalk unless they are in my contact list, so cannot simply type into the compose box john smith@...... because as i do so it brings up my contact list box only, i.e j for john - this is peeing me off.
When you hit "compose" the screen changes to give you the one to send a message. Your cursor is probably in the box immediately to the right of a small blue box containg "To". If you click on the word "To" you will be presented with your contacts list. You need to make sure your cursor is flashing in the long clear box to the right of the "to" box; you can then type in an email address.
