I have a Samsung phone on vodafone, with unlimited minutes
it has started to tell me calls to this number are restricted on this phone, contact your service provider.
But I get the same message if I try to call the Vodafone help desk.

I recall reading somewhere that Vodafone do this if they think there is suspicious activity on the phone. Think you will have to use a land line or borrow someone's mobile to get them to release it.

Call 03333 040 191 from a landline (or another mobile). Calls are charged at exactly the same rate as 01 and 02 numbers are, which means they'll be free if you're calling from a landline with UK free calls or from a mobile phone with a package that includes free minutes. That number is available from 0800 to 2100 daily.

Are you sure that you've paid your bill? (You might, for example, be paying from a debit card but you've been issued with a new card, with a new number, and have forgotten to tell Vodafone).

I have contacted them by internet chat. it is security question. My son actually pays for the phone as a gift to me. They say they can sort it out by talking to him but he is on a remote Greece island on holiday out of contact.

Problem solved. My son who as I said was on a Greek Island, thought he had lost his phone and reported it to Vodafone. He has 2 phones on his contract his and mine. Vodafone blocked the wrong one, mine.
His phone was found and returned to him as well so all is OK.
