My three year old iPad 2 is being somewhat belligerent. I am frequently told that the site I wish to visit has crashed and I am thrown out. Everything is running very slowly.

Does anyone have any suggestions for improving performance or should I just put it down to old age and go shopping for a new iPad?

A reboot can help, hold down the home dimple button and the off switch for about 15 seconds leave it off for 30 seconds then switch on again by holding down the same buttons for about 15 secs again .... Wait a awhile And should should restart and be faster. Good Luck
how many windows have you got open?

I've done the shutdown and reduced open windows to the minimum, no change in performance though.
My ipad2 is over 4 years old now and it has got slower but when using safari (especially during the evening) it crashes sometimes. I make sure that all my apps are closed and this usually does the trick. The guy in the Apple shop told me to reset the network settings and it has helped. This does not lose any data just passwords for any networks that you use.
The closing unused apps will often help, double click the home button and swipe up the apps, also clear the Safari data from inside Settings.
