Adding A Whatsapp Contact!

I normally have no trouble adding someone but today I just cannot add a friend. We are both on whatsapp by onine she doesn't appear, and on her phone I do not appear to be on whatsapp and I am. I've rebooted and googled but my phone doesn't do what they suggest. Any ideas would be appreciated. We are both on Android system.Thank you

No expert but: does both WhatsUp and your phone directory list the same mobile number details so it know it's dealing with the same person ?

Yes I think so as I have messaged her by messaging, but just cannot add her, I have a feeling this may be her phone's fault.

I know WhatsApp did a site update last week.
Why not go into FAQ's in settings to see if that may help you.

switch to wechat which I found after experiencing problems with whatsapp. It is free & works well

I've refreshed it all as advised in FAQ. Daughter's just tried and we both know what we are doing but it just won't. I think its friend's phone that needs updating. Thank you all.
