Text Replying For Dummies

Not used to texts...

Got a message on my new Samsung J320. Click the Message icon, message comes up.

On the top of the screen is an arrow going left, and the name of the sender.

On screen centre, the message.

How do I reply directly to that person/organisation?

I don't have the same phone but have you not got a little box at the bottom of the screen. If so, click in that to reply.

The text app on your Android mobile might not be the same as the one on mine (which is an Alcatel model) but I also see a text displayed with the name of the sender at the top and a left-pointing arrow so, hopefully, I might be able to help you.

Firstly, that arrow takes you back to the full list of texts stored on your phone. (It will probably only work if you've got to the text by going to the 'text message' icon first, to view that list. It will probably do nothing at all if you've gone direct to a text that you've just received).

However, at the bottom of my screen there's a box labelled 'Type text message'. (I'm hoping that you've got something similar, otherwise this post is probably rather pointless). Next to that box is an icon that looks like paper dart.

If you tap in the box I've just mentioned you'll bring up a keyboard, which allows you to type your message. (There will be buttons on the keyboard which enable you to turn capitals on or off, or to switch to numeric/special characters). As you type, you'll probably see suggested words across the top of the keyboard. (e.g. if I type 'crossw' it suggests 'crossword'). When you see the word that you actually want appear, simply tap on it.

When you've completed your text message, tap the 'paper dart' to send it.

My Samsung has a box at bottom left, but it is hidden until you tap that part of the screen.

Perhaps they don't accept replies? Are you having the same problem with other texts?

Did your version, Chris, i.e. tapped arrow, got a page with that text on it, down the bottom is 'Compose', started to compose, put in 'T-Mobile' as the recipient, machine says 'The recipient's number is not valid'.

Is this because they don't WANT to be replied to?

Three glaring spelling errors in a short message. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence!

However I'm left wondering if T-Mobile has managed to send out a text which is the equivalent of a 'no reply' email, where it's not possible to get back to the sender. (I've never encountered such a text before but I suppose that it's possible). What happens if you click on 'More'?

No, never had a text before (I told you I was a dummy), so might well be T Mobile keeping their secrets.

For 'recipient' you need to enter a phone number.

I tried More. It only goes to 'delete' (which isn't a bad idea)

Yes, the 8811 etc. number (forget exactly, but eight or so digits) came up under their name, THEN the business about not valid.
