Do You Have A Desktop Pc?
Just wondering how many of us use desktop pcs and whether they really have gone out of fashion.
I have two, both over ten years old. I run W10 on one and dualboot W10 and Linux on the other. Both are coming to the end of their lives and I will have to buy a replacement in the next few years. I will probably go for a large monitor and a mini pc - no need for floppy disc drives or CD/DVD writers these days.
If you do have a PC, do you also have a tablet, laptop or other device? Can you see yourself ditching the PC for good? I use one program a lot, I rely on it, and it is only available for Windows PCs, so I could get by with a laptop but I like a large screen and an excellent keyboard.

In defence of the laptop though, we're driving down to Switzerland at the end of the month for a short break & I'll take the lap top, with an added sound bar & might end up late at night in a hotel room watching something like Downton Abbey on Netflix with a bottle of wine drinking from plastic cups, - not for the first time. 😊
desktop, laptop, pad, phones, built the desktop to play games on specifically, but technology what it is, keeps evolving..upgrade this that part etc, iv given up on it, daughter bought me a game console for xmas, easier and just works, rarely actually play games anymore, mostly use my dell touchscreen laptop for work related things and browsing, at my age probably be the last laptop ill need less it breaks down, going to sell the desktop..not worth what i put into it though.
I'm retired so I don't need anything for work purposes. There is very little I do that I don't do from my iPhone. I use banking apps, I use it for emails, for social media, booking tickets, route maps, general internet. I rarely get the laptop out but occasionally if I need to do something more formal like a tax return.
I'm curious to know what others use their PCs for tbh.
I have a desktop. I agree with OG @ 17.55. And I am still using Windows 7. That's because all of the files and folders I've created over the years won't open on anything later than W7. I am still using MS Office Pro 2000, a brilliant office program that has never been bettered and also won't open on anything later than W7. However, I also have a laptop and smartphone that I use for banking and other more important things.
MS change these things over the years just because they can, but also to rip us all off. There was never any need to remove Windows XP, in my opinion.
Yeah that is very sad. I wouldn't be surprised if that kids parents were approached by a tech brand to advertise their new tablet/iPad/Kindle (you get the idea). I can just see the Ad now; toddler trying to swipe a book, then a transition to them playing with a tablet/Kindle and some horrible narration, "The 12th gen Kindle, perfect for if you're 12 months old or 120, pre-order now". Yeah, I'd be no good writing advertisements (that's a good thing). Still, I can imagine someone doing that.
I dunno Oz, I think that laptop sales are doing well. I agree that so many more people have phones and tablets nowadays, however I've also seen an increase in people buying gaming laptops, instead of having huge rigs.
We still have a gaming desktop, we just connect to it remotely. Hell, if we could get the performance we needed through arduino's, we probably would use them instead. Anything that our diddy mini PC's can't handle, one of our powerful servers picks up the slack. Mini PC's are so affordable and if you don't need to be moving around, they will do the job nicely. For 100 Aussie bucks you can get a decent mini PC and just connect it to your TV.
