no, it's part of the package they sell you and charge you monthly.

^^^ It's certainly part of a package, TTT, but you've still got to buy the telly!

Sky Glass TV sets come in three sizes, costing between £699 and £1199 but with most people probably opting to pay over either 24 or 48 months.  They enable purchasers to access exactly the same range of Sky services as other Sky customers get but with the signals arriving over the internet (through a home router) instead of via a satellite dish.  So the cost of viewing Sky will depend upon the type of package that you select.

Although (obviously) there's information on Sky's own website, the Curry's one possibly makes things a little clearer:

And you don't have to use Sky Broadband - just use your current supplier.

"^^^ It's certainly part of a package, TTT, but you've still got to buy the telly!" - what part of "charge you monthly" is confusing you?

Or you can connect your existing TV to a Sky Stream gadget thingy

"Sky Stream gadget thingy".  That's far too technical for me, Barry 😁

(It's actually called a 'puck', with Sky's 'over the internet' service being called 'Sky Stream': https://www.sky.com/tv/stream )

He's not confused. You buy the Sky Glass TV and own it outright. If you later choose to cancel the Sky package it still works as a Freeview tv

As I understand it with Sky Glass another downside is everything is streamed so no downloading to watch later. Sky sports + is the same, if the programme you wish to watch is on the red button service you have to watch it live , no going to the game and watching it again when you get back

Sky Glass can't record, it 'bookmarks' programmes for you to watch on catch up.

The advantages are you don't need an aerial to watch Freeview and you don't need a box to watch Sky, less cables, less clutter.

I wouldn't buy one.

Having said that, BT and EE customers cannot record BBC1 now, I suspect some of my BBC1 recordings on Virgin aren't downloaded recordings.
