invisible cursor

I have a HP omnibook6000 notebook running WIN2K and Office2000. For some while past it had the following intermittant problem 1. Cursor would become invisible in applications windows e.g when the cursor changes from arrow to cross in Excel - 2. When opening application, focus would be lost immediately - 3. The clipboard copy has a picture rather than say text when copying in MSWord. I run CA AV and Firewall - these find nothing - it was fully up to date in SP's and updates from Microsoft. Eventually I re-loaded the op system using the recovery disk. Worked OK, but the problem is still there!! Tried a second recovery disk - problem still there. CA and HP Tech Support are useless. Any suggestions.
