After a lot of years, i hav decided to get all my old vinyl out the attic and hopefully burn them to cdr, how do iget them on my computer anybody please?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.It is pretty straight forward: take the line out from your stereo (probably phono) and put it into the line-in of your sound card (stereo mini-jack). Thus, you require a phono to stereo mini-jack cable. The next bit is more problematic: you need sound forge (try kazaa) or equivalent to record the line-in signals as a .wav file. Play the LP and record it in real time. You can edit the track and de-hiss/normalise it etc (post-production) later. Windows has its own sound recorder but it is limited to 2 minutes or so. Sound forge will convert .wav to .mp3 but you will need to convert the tracks to a CD compatible format to play in a standard CD player.
I have converted my Lps and cassettes into mp3s. It is a lenghty process but well worth it. Having the lot on cds however kind of takes away from the ritual of pulling out the LP looking at the cover, remembering when you bought it, looking at the running order and reading the sleeve notes while listening to it, which I sometimes miss. Also note that when you burn the cd it sometimes mixes up the running order burning the files in alphabetical order. As I said above it is time consuming but well worth it. Good luck.
