Looking at buying a new PC for home use only. i.e. Internet use and Football Manager 2006 etc etc... ( dont tell the wife )
Has anyone got any recommendations as to which 1 to go for?

Dell are good. They only sell online but if you look in most daly papers or some magazines they do loads of deals.

Dont buy the first one you see on the Dell web site.

Try selecting various options on the web site to get the best price. Look at the various deals and see what special offers are available.

Often they offer double memory, or larger hard disk, or bigger monitor on certain models.

I bought a good Dell PC a few weeks ago for my son with 1Gb of memory, 80Gb hard drive, 17" flat panel monitor, for about 440 pounds including delivery.

Some suggestions whatever PC you buy.

Windows Vista is due to come out very early next year (say Microsoft). This is likely to require a more powerful machine than Windows XP.

You may decide to move to Vista some time in the future so make sure your machine is powerful enough.

I would make sure it has 1Gb of memory for example.

Also I would go for one with a DVD WRITER as well, not just a CD writer.

Depending on how computer savvy you are, have you thought about building your own? That way, you get the exact spec you want and the knowledge and satisfaction of building your own computer. As long as you research the compatibility of the components before-hand, putting it together isn't so difficult.

Of course, if you prefer to get one out of the box you could look at systems from online stores such as www.ebuyer.com and www.dabs.com (these sites sell individual components and whole systems)

I think buying 1 is the way to go for me mattfox.
