My sister has recently downloaded limewire and has now downloaded some music files. The problem is that i have heard from a friend that limewire corrupted her computer and all her files were deleted! I am just wanting to know if this was just a one off thing or if it happens more often?
Thanx in advance!

I've used limewire for a long time and never had any problems. As long as you are responsible and use a firewall and a virus scanner then that should catch any dodgy stuff just fine.

Yes we have Norton Internet Security, and i think its a good one because it wont let you go on msn without actually taking it off. Thank you for your answer!
I've used lime wire for about a year, and the only problem i had was when i downloaded a program. if you stick to music you should be ok. i use norton and zone alarm and i havent had a problem since.
You should be fine. But just remember that if you have important stuff on your computer, make regular backups of it just in case the worst happens. Apart from software problems and viruses etc., simple mechanical failure can happen.
The important thing with downloading with products like limewire is to be aware of the file extension of the file you are downloading.

So if the file ends with MP3 or WMA then it is a music file so you should have no problem. Name like music.mp3 for example.

If the file ends with EXE or SCR then it is a program and if you download it and run it then it could do almost anything.

If I file ends in ZIP or RAR then it is a number of files packed together, which in itself it OK, but when you unpack it then it may contain dodgy programs.

Note that some anti-virus programs may not be able to see inside a ZIP or RAR files so it may not spot a virus coming down inside a ZIP or RAR file.

As someone else said, just stick to mp3 or wma and you should be OK.
Im a movie fan!
Before joining Kazaa Platinum I could only afford to buy about 2-3 new movies each month. But now when I have been a member with Kazaa Platinum for a month I have already downloaded 40 movies! Its amazing, I never thought of these ways to get movies/music before. Highly recommended http://www.kazaa-platinum.com
Kazaa Platinum http://www.kazaa-platinum.com recently came into market. I bought it & I think this was the best choice I ever made.

It gives me specific results for my music & movie downloads, unlike Limewire or any other Kazaa.

It also gives a free anti virus programme , free Ipods/ Mp3 transfer software, free CD burning software free, all in just 29.50 $ one time lifetime fee.

I must say it is a revoultion in music / movies downloads.
