I am really getting into my new digital camera and the things you can do to photo's on a computer. I would like to take this up as a serious hobby but am not sure what would be the best Photo Editor software package to buy would be.
a lot of pro's use PhotoShop but it aint cheap. GraphicConverter (shareware I think) is cheap but not as slick - does most things but the interface isnt quite as good.
As the above say, the industry standard is Photoshop (you may have heard of people "Photoshopping my picture" or something like that?)
It's very expensive though, but they do another product called Photoshop Elements which is much cheeper and does a lot of the same things, but often more easily. It sometimes comes free with a scanner or similar peripherals.
I think there are a lot of alternatives to programs that were mentioned above. For me, the best is https://aurorahdr.com/. This software allows you to edit photos in such a way that even the most unsuccessful photos become masterpieces.
