laptop to tv

I bought a scart cable to view my laptop screen on my tv, but i cant seem to get it working! The person i bought it from says i might need to activate the s-video port on my laptop? can anyone give me any advice? many thanks in advance!!

You may well find that one of the Function keys on your laptop has a key that looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing right through it. This is the key to use (in combination with the Fn key) to switch through your PC Video outputs.

Failing that you can also change it through the Display properties and Settings submenu (right click your mouse on the desktop and use the bottom Properties menu option, then across to the Settings tab and change the Display option).

sorry, scratch the last one! thats working now, but it's the sound i'm having problems transferring now! how stupid can i get! i've got it plugged in to my sound out port on my laptop, but nothings oming through my tv??? please help (again!!)!
