I have had a freecom dvb-t usb stick for a few months now and it has worked perfectly off a mains ariel. However I plugged the usb into the computer and the other end into the ariel socket and it would not light up. Could it have shortened out or something?
Firstly, I would check that you have not damaged the tiny gold centre pin of the aerial adapter. (This has happened to other users). These uunits are very fragile.
If that seems ok, then I would try plugging the unit into a different usb port
I assume by 'mains ariel' you are referring to your house tv aerial socket
Maggie just wondered if they are all they`re cracked up to be plus did to have to buy a special adaptor/connector to wire it up to an external aerial?? Seen these for sale and they come with a dinky aerial but the slot on the usb part looks smaller than a regular aerial hole(hope you understand what I mean)
If the light on the stick does not come on (will be Orange once connected to PC - turns to Green when it gets a valid TV signal) try reinstalling the software CD.
You might have a corrupt file somewhere.
I can't see anything wrong with the pin
I have tried all the usb ports
When I try to re-install the disc it says it cannot find software to install it.
teash. You have to buy a small adaptor to fit the ariel socket (not expensive) and the ariel that comes with it is useless. At least where I live. We have a spare mains ariel socket and it works perfectly with this. I have been really pleased with mine up till now.
OK, with the Freecom disconnected from your PC USB, un-install the software for it.
Get the CD and then re-install the software/driver , once this is done reconnect the Freecom and see is the USB finds the new device.
Do you have any other USB devices and if you do are they working OK?
My husband had another one which he has let me have. It is odd really because you cannot install the software/driver untill the device is in the laptop. The laptop was recognising there was a new device but as it wouldn't light up, my computer couldn't find the software. It was a bit of a vicious circle. I idid un-install the software but then couldn't re-install it. It is only 4months old and I haven't used it that much so he is going to take it back to the shop and see what they say. Thanks for all your help. I still think they are great little gadgets.
