cd "read only"

Is there any way that I can copy to cd drive a read and write file. I have tried several permutations but to no avail, any help appreciated!

Not quite sure what you are trying to do here misto. When you copy files to CD, they automatically become read-only, even if the media is re-writeable. When they are subsequently copied back to the hard-drive, they will become writeable again. You cannot edit the file on the CD,

Although I may have missed your point here :)

I just thought that there might be a way of editing the file without having to transfer to hard-drive.

You can use a re-writeable CD like a 'giant floppy' with suitable packet-writing software. You simply use the software to format the CD-RW and then you can edit files on the CD in exactly the same way that you can on a floppy. If your drive came with Nero software, the relevant program is called InCD.

However, you need to be aware that packet-writing software is often criticized for being unreliable or, in some cases, causing system conflicts which result in the 'blue screen of death'.
