what digital camera?

im looking to buy a digital camera, although times are changing fast that its hard to keep up with what i should be getting for my money. I have between �200/�300 to spent thats without VAT cos i'll but through my business... can anyone reccommend a model?

You wouldn't go far wrong with an Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom - my dad's just bought one and I've been playing with it. Look at the last few photographs (Tuesday, March 23, 2004 onwards) I've posted at http://IndieSinger.yafro.com to see what kind of pictures it creates.

We had a terrible job with them - firstly the order didn't turn up (even though we paid extra for 24 hour delivery, then they still charged us for the camera, then we couldn't contact them for a refund (their offices are in Spain and France and they can't write English e-mails to save their life) then when they eventually DID refund us, it was over a month after we'd asked for a refund.

The first consideration is how many megapixels to go for, and that depends on the use you will have for the camera. 1 mp is enough for e-mail pictures, 3 is supposed to give a sharp enough image to print at A4 size without looking unduly fuzzy. You only need more than 3 megapixels if you intend to print in larger sizes than that. Then consider zoom capability. Optical zoom is "true" zoom: digital zoom is just magnifying part of the digital image (each separate pixel).
After that I suggest you look at the other features of various cameras. Some are "point and shoot" with a few things you can tweak, while others are more like professional SLRs which need intelligent setting. I have had an Olympus mju-300 for nearly a year now and am very satisfied with it. 3 megapixels, essentially point and shoot, 3x optical zoom (and some digital zoom which I never use), small and easily pocketable. Buy a magazine and then go and look at some in a shop. Then look on the Net for a good price!

I'll start you off - The Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom is 4 Mega Pixels and 40 x Optical and Digital Zoom. If you want to ajust the aperture/shutter speed and manual focus for each photograph you can, otherwise it has a Point-and-Click, a Portrait, a Sports, a Landscape and Portrait, a Landscape, a Night Scene, a Self-Portrait, a Program and a Movie Shooting setting.
