Im looking to buy a camera for my sis, she has never owned a digital one. Can anyone recommend me a nice, simple dig camera that costs not more than 100 but takes good quality photos?

That does seem like a good camera Crossroads, but its aroud 150 and we are def not going over the 100 budget, especially as Im certain that there are good cameras out there for under 100!
(2-part post):

Hi again.

Thanks for your kind comments. My first thoughts here are about finding a camera with a decent optical zoom. In the price range you're looking at, you probably won't get much better than a 3x zoom.

The number of megapixels is largely immaterial. Despite manufacturers trying to con us that we all need a vast number of Mp, even a 2Mp camera will give decent prints at A5 size. Even at A4 size, it's almost impossible to tell the difference between a picture taken on a 3Mp camera and a 4Mp one. Since quite cheap cameras now offer 5Mp, it's pointless bothering too much about the number of megapixels.

Camera buyers used to have to decide between different memory formats but SD cards have become the standard these days, so that's what you need to check for.

Next you clearly want something which can be used on a simple 'point and click' basis, but it would be a bonus if there were extra facilities available once the user becomes more experienced.

Putting that lot together, I reckon that you can buy a decent camera for around 60, plus the cost of a decent SD card. Take a look at this Kodak model:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/zone/spe cialOfferZone/C$PROMOTION/1/partNumber/5606760 /Trail/zone%3DspecialOfferZone.Special+Offers% 3EC%24cip%3D1500006538.Photography%3EC%24cip%3 D1500006547.Digital%2Bcameras.htm
It's got a good specification for the price (including video with sound) and Kodak products usually have user manuals which are easy to understand.

The internal memory on that camera won't store many pictures but that's easily fixed by purchasing an SD card. (Don't buy from Argos, they're grossly over-priced). You can pick up a 1Gb or 2Gb card really cheaply online, e.g. here:
http://www.directfoto.co.uk/shop/category/Memo ry-Cards-Blank-Media.aspx?categoryid=38&Sort=F romPrice%20ASC&gclid=CPyemZ2mo44CFQMfEgoduHTrZ A

So, in total, you're looking at around 70. Actually, I'd suggest using up a little more of your budget to buy a couple of sets of nickel-metal-hydride batteries, and a charger. As you've probably discovered, digital cameras eat batteries!

Those are my first thoughts. If I spot a camera with an optical zoom better than 3x, I'll let you know.
