I changed my ISP recently and st up the office PC with all the user names and passwords etc. The next day I brought my laptop in which automatically connected wirelessly without me having to do anything, how did that happen?

It's magic. Don't question it or it disappears
It means you have absolutely no security on your internet and your next door neighbours could log on to it just as easily
Assuming that you didn't change your router, then it will naturally connect. Your router connects to the Internet, all your computers simply connect to the router.

OK, so I need to secure the wireless network so it's not available to all, where do I do that?
Detailed instructions for securing the network are detailed in the CD-ROM that came with your wireless device. Dig out that CD and take a look at the pdf files it contains on your PC. Brief details might be found on the booklet that came with the wireless device.

The wireless sevice is secured via the settings page that you open via a web browser. With my Belkin wireless modem/router, typing http://192.168.2.1 into a browser window brings upthe page. Other manufacturers use different http addresses.
