I have a Sharp GX25. When I first tried to connect to the laptop via ir the laptop told me 'new hardware detected' and I was prompted to install the software.

This I did.

Now it just will not connect at all. Am I missing something simple?
I have looked at the useless manual, contacted useless Vodafone and useless Sharp.

Any clues?

Ethel, I know it doesn't really answer your question but you'd be much better off getting a USB bluetooth adapter for you laptop, i've got the one in the link below and it works really well and is so small you can leave it plugged in without any risk of it getting damaged or damaging the usb port.

Added advantage that it will work with bluetooth headsets so you can wander round the house or use both hand to type while using an internet phone installed on the laptop

I have reasons for not wanting a bluetooth dongle. :(

Anyway, the stupid phone now connects to the laptop via infra red, so I can transfer photos and so on.

But it won't connect to its own stupid software which is a minor irritation, but not worth agonising over.
