Wired networks had revolutionised the way offices worked and were already widely used by July 1999, when Apple introduced a network router called Airport, which adhered to the wireless network standard. Almost as soon as it was available, users of PC's wanted the same facilities. Manufacturers rushed to produce plug-in cards and standalone wireless fidelity (WiFi) hubs.
Apples Airport was launched on the 6th of July 1999.
