I have a process running on my computer called faxtask.exe i have no idea where it came from, it is using up to 66,000 k of the memory and up to 60 of the cpu! it slows everything down and i cant get rid of it! i have tried anding process tried anding process tree and on both ocasions it just pops back up. any sugestions?
My favourite way of dealing with this is searching for it on the computer (search for faxtask.exe) then changing the security on it so no-one has any rights (untick the allow inheritable permissions... then remove). Then reboot. It usually works great but is spectacular if it is a required system file... This only works with an NTFS partition where the security can be set.
Type msconfig.exe in to the run menu on your start bar, then look through the contents of the startup menu tab, untick the box if the process is showing on there and then click apply. Reboot and that may have solved your problem.
