how to find out what type of ram to buy and how to fit it?

i have a compaq presario, f500, and have 1gb of ram, on win 7

my comp is telling me i should add more...but not sure how etc

I like crucial http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx I have used them before, they find what RAM you need and the prices are reasonable.

Of course, once you know what type of RAM you will be needing, you could look elsewhere if you wish.
