First of all let me say that I have never used a mobile phone before (not even used the real phone for 20 years). Daughter bought us a simple LG mobile for in the car. Told we should make one call a month to keep it active. Now today I tried to make a call. All I get is a white screen saying Press Unblock and then Yes. Great except that pressing every key does nothing at all. And 'Yes' as a key does not exist at all.
So what am I doing wrong?
As Bushbaby-de indicates, unlocking the keypad on a mobile phone normally involves pressing two keys in quick succession. Try pressing any key to get 'Unlock: Yes' onto the screen and then IMMEDIATELY pressing the key nearest to the word 'Yes' (which I'm guessing is on your screen to act as a label for the key which you require).

Unlocking the keys and getting a signal are different things. You can unlock the keys regardless as to whether you are in a "dead spot" signalwise. You just can't make a call there.
Wow. Speed is definitely of the essence. Pressing the key under the word Unlock then the one under Yes does indeed clear the thing, but boy so you have to be quick Still only get a Limited Service message, but then not been anywhere away from the house. Will try when I go into town later on.
Thanks muchly.
Final word on the subject. Tried the phone in the lay-by at the bottom of out lane and it worked. Only the second phone call I have made in 15 years so feeling very pleased with myself.
Thanks everyone for your help and patience.
They make it random buttons and short time frame so it doesn't accidentally turn itself on and start calling people when its crammed into your bag or pocket.
