OH, and Milton Keynes hasn't got a lot going for it. (AB users exempted)
I hear its nice in the summer down by the river.
China Doll:
You obviously didn't discover Manchester's 'Gay Village' (around Canal Street). Just like Brighton's Kemp Town (which is predominantly populated by the gay community) it's packed full of excellent bars and restaurants.
Chuck:
One of these days I'll have to detour via Coggeshall, on my way to Ebbsfleet International, to pick you up for a guided tour of Paris. I can guarantee that you'll quickly get to love the city ;-)
Sir Alec:
While I miss "'ole in't ro-ud" (a.k.a. Castle Square) I think that Sheffield city centre is much nicer than it used to be. (The improvements to the Peace Gardens are particularly impressive).

While Penistone definitely isn't a city, it has to be near to the top of my list of the most depressing places to visit. (Perhaps that's because it's always been raining when I've been there, but Penistone just seems to be one of those places which needs rain simply to exist!)
Leeds = beautiful city with so much more than most people know

Sheffield = not beautiful but full of great people, great pubs, great social life

Paris = sheethole, full of dog sheete and beggers

but the worst of them = Bradford = dive, nothing to offer anyone, scummy, dirty, talentless = the very worst that a city can offer
Truer though that it is always windy in Penistone. I don't go there very often. It's been beautiful and sunny here in Thurlstone today!
I agree that Milton Keynes is horrific. When I lived in Bedford we used to call it The Great Roundabout in the Sky.
New York. It's the only place I've ever been where I could actually feel the tension on the street....
Hate Milton Keynes.....it all looks the same...so easy to get lost. They have IKEA now though...
HalifaxMum:
Bradford: "nothing to offer anyone".
What about the National Media Museum?
(I've travelled from Suffolk, on day trips, just to see the exhibitions there).

And why are people knocking Milton Keynes?
It used to be characterless but it's had a lot done to it, so that it's now much better than it was. (It's also a great place for people with young families: Loads of open spaces and traffic-free housing areas)
Chris - It's horrible. Especially if you drive there.
When we had to drive through MK, we used to sing "Little Boxes, little boxes. They're all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same."
Buenchico - national media museum...???!

it's got an oscar statue from david from years ago, a few old cameras and an imax screen that shows sharks...?!!!

your point is?
Blimey! I haven't heard "Little Boxes" since Junior Choice with Ed 'Stewpot' Stewart in the 70s...

Oh dear, I'm showing my age again!
Well, if you are, so am I... :-)
I got his album bought for me twice for my birthday (by two different friends) - Ed Stewpot Stuart's pop party. Classic. I wonder where they went...
I'll be fair here...

I've not been to Milton Keynes for about 15 years, so it probably has improved.

But I never did find driving around there a problem, it's just horizontal or vertical blocks.
Good Lord, Halifaxmum, were they enemies of yours?
