Bangkok is fun - plenty of far scarier places - summed up by the adaption of an old Confucius-ism.
"Hangzhou - there is heaven and there is earth and on earth heaven is Hangzhou."
"Detroit - there is heaven and there is hell and on earth hell is Detroit"

Moi aussie. I got lost on the way to the shopping mall and asked someone the way. It turns out she was someone from the Canadian CAA equivalent and we got talking as it wasn`t long after 9/11. She said the laws were changed in Montreal and all signs etc had to be in French first then English. She said that all the English (as she called them but they were Canadians) moved out of Montreal then. I don`t have a strong opinion about them but I got the impression she didn`t like the French Montreal people
While I'm happy to agree with EcclesCake that Brussels is fairly boring, I certainly couldn't consider it for the title of my 'least favourite city'. There are too many good bars, serving great Belgian beers, for it to hold that title ;-)
Pa___ul3 suggests Manchester. While it lacks the character of the two cities to the east and west of it (Sheffield and Liverpool), it's still got a few things to commend it.
I'm totally in disagreement with The-Toff-.
While Paris (like most tourist destinations) has plenty of 'rip off' bars and restaurants, you can still buy a good quality three course meal in the Latin Quarter for less than you'd pay for a rubbish meal in a UK fast food restaurant.
My least favourite city (with apologies to Barmaid who has the misfortune to live there) might well be Peterborough: Boring, boring, boring!

You definitely must have visited Barcelona in the company of the wrong person!
Great beaches, superb bars, lovely restaurants (with the best paella in the world!), loads of cultural attractions and a cheap, fully-integrated transport system. Fantastic!
Manchester?
See above
Coventry?
A fairly depressing city centre (and a horrid ring road system!) but with a few gems (such as the transport museum) which exclude it from being considered as my least favourite city.

Manchester was really horrible and despite my general mocking of all things northern, I actually quite like some areas past the watford gap... in much the same way I like and dislike some areas in London and to the south. I was young when I went so you'd have thought I'd have enjoyed the vibrancy but I really didn't.
As to barcelona, I don't hate it, I was just left feeling a bit 'meh' about it all... But because so many other people enjoyed it, I would like to go back there again and give it another shot. I did enjoy the sangria and tapas (excpet potato bravas which never did quite live up to expectation). Manchester you'd have to drag me to kicking and screaming though I'm afraid.

Trimeresurus:
Having lived in Sheffield for 20 years (where everyone hate Leeds!) I won't rush to support Leeds as a particularly inspiring city.
However Leicester has superb theatres, possibly the best market in the country, a genuinely multicultural atmosphere (with some superb Asian restaurants) and quite a few good pubs. I'd love to live there!
