A nice seaside...

I want to go out for the day on Saturday, to a 'nice' seaside.
I've always really fancied Brighton, but wondered if anyone else had any other good suggestions.
I am quite fussy about what I want, and I'm after something 'traditional'... so no loud fun fairs or loads of pubs and clubs. I know that's quite tricky these days, but there MUST be somewhere which is nostalgic. Surely??

Oh, and it has to be on the south or south/east coast.

Go to Whitstable on North Kent coast, oysters, long sandy beach, nice little town.

Bednobs, really? I've always looked at it on the tv and thought it looked lovely? Oh. I'm a bit gutted now.

Why is it so horrible? Don't they have a nice pebbled beach, nice old-fashioned pier? Hmmm... obviously not :-(

Whitstable? I will see what I can find on that. Sounds nice though. Just hope the sun makes an appearance.

Swanage is pretty traditional and there are 3 lovely sandy beaches at Studland set in beautiful Dorset countryside.

My favourite place is Dorset, Weymouth is nice, or Bournemouth. Depends where you live. Battle or Rye on the s e coast.

Ohh, Swanage isn't too far from me at all. Well, a couple of hours. I have very specific visions though, of what it must look like! lol.

I like Brighton but it's not exactly quaint. The beach is shingle, not sand which takes something away from it and there is a huge strip of bars and clubs along the sea front. I like going there but it doesn't sound like what you are after.

Bournemouth was more nostalgicy.

I used to live near Whitstable and it was a dump then! certainly not famed for its beaches.

West Wittering`s not bad if you get a nice day. It`s traditional in that it has beach huts and is sandy. It`s quite easy to get to from London by car.

AYG, I love Weymouth. I always tend to end up there though, so wanted to try something different. Have never been to Bournemouth though.
Right. Lets forget Brighton shall we. "A huge strip of bars and clubs" is definitely not what I'm after. Oh, what a shame.

Yes! Beach huts is what I'm talking about. Candy floss, victorian pier... that kind of thing.

Actually maybe I'm being a little unfair. 'Huge' might have been a bit of an exaguration, but they're there. On the other hand Brighton has The Lanes, great for a wonder round and a bit of window shopping.
