Haha No I wasn;t suggesting that he SIT on a seat, or even Chrissa booked an extra seat for the room, I was just thinking if its busy then the dog would be a bit in the way (obviously the comfort of the dog is paramount though!) But then I suppose the timing of your journey could indicate how busy it would be...

Seem to remember you needed a dog ticket at one time but mine have gone free on train and Tube. Bus companies can charge for any dog. Others will let a dog you can carry travel free.

I always take my dog on trains and have done with previous dogs. I have never had any problems, and he's fairly big. People often make a fuss of him and bend down for a quick pat as they get on and off the train, and he gets loads of smiles. And you don't have to pay. I don't drive, so it's ideal for me.

Me too and he always got a positive response from people. He was a JR cross and sat on my lap and got stroked lots.

I think most people see it as a novelty as I very rarely see other dogs when he's with me.

Do NOT drive to London. It is very expensive to park there. As long as your dog does not make a mess on the train then it should be welcome. If you are coming from the midlands area then this company is best:

Of course you may take a dog on the train, as long as the other passengers don't mind the smell. Go easy on the onions, maybe go for ketchup instead.

Nice one OG. I'm actually going to stay with my daughter in Surrey so I think I Will drive down from Northumberland. Got breakdown cover so shoud be ok and Toby can sleep the journey away in the back.
