Can anyone recommend a "proper" spa break. One that has a picturesque setting and includes one or two treatments. The first (and only time) is booked one off the Intrrnet the "spa" was merely a gym attached to the hotel with a communal hot tub / steam room. Anywhere in England

I could tell you about a beautiful one in Morocco.......... :-)
If your budget is big enough, the answer would seem to be obvious!

Otherwise, this has an extremely good reputation here in East Anglia:

It's just outside Norwich, which is good for shopping, restaurants, bars and entertainment, and well-located for exploring the Norfolk Broads, the North Norfolk coast and Suffolk's coastal resorts (such as Southwold, which is really lovely).

How about Bath?

A lovely place, and this place sounds impressive:

I wouldn't recommend Champneys, very tired and over rated.

Ragdale Hall is OK, nice location and good facilities.
Another thought is Pennyhill Park in Surrey. It is fabulous, but quite expensive.
As is the Chewton Glen in Hants but very expensive. Easy access to B'mth, Poole and the New Forest.
My Mrs likes Hoar Cross Hall, just outside Lichfield.
Ragdale Hall or Hoar Cross Hall are both proper spa breaks with proper spa prices attached! The Centre Parcs spas are very good too.
