When your sending your belongings through airport security is it ok to leave your phone, tablet etc in your coat pockets? If not, do they have to be on top of everything and on show?
Unfortunately I'm not going on holiday, it's just a discussion we've been having.

At Manchester the rules state that anything with a screen size over 7 inches should be put in the tray uncovered.
Also:
"Place laptops and large electrical items in a separate tray.
Put spectacles (eye glasses), coins, keys, mobile phones and other small items in your coat or hand baggage"
