I need to go from north Hampshire to Essex today (this afternoon) and will go round the M25 clockwise. With the current situation, is the M25 on a hot Friday afternoon any better than it normally would be?

bednobs I think it will be busy, with people trying to get away for the weekend.
At least you don’t have to use the Dartford Crossing.
I haven't been on the M25 in months but I can only say inner-London traffic is a lot lighter than usual; if you can avoid rush hour, so much the better. Going past Heathrow is usually the worst section, but with few flights it shouldn't be too bad.
Unless you leave early the M25 is usually worse on Friday due to early leavers and folk getting away. That stated, the current situation isn't normal so I doubt anyone has reliable insight.
