It's grim this weekend between Watford and Milton Keynes.

Today: Rail replacement bus - journey time 1 hour 49 minutes

Tuesday: Rail - journey time 20 minutes.

It's not a lot better from Euston to Milton Keynes. That gets underway by rail, with the Underground to St Pancras and a train to Bedford, but it's still a bus from there.

I remember being asked by a passenger at Ipswich, "How long will the engineering work on the Liverpool Street to Norwich line being going on for?". He looked less than pleased when I replied, "Every weekend for the next 8 years, sir".

8 years later, the engineering work on that line did indeed come to an end. A couple of months later though, Network Rail started a new lot of engineering work on the line!
LOL, sounds like the smart motorway conversion on the M5 ( gawd help me, gotta travel the whole length of it next month to get to Cornwall ) it's been going on forever.

Good luck with that Tony, I had enough of it on the M3 a while ago on my London trips - miles and miles of speed restrictions, narrow lanes, congestion, queues etc etc. All in aid of producing a potentially more dangerous road - break down at your peril !
