What is the minum widthe of an A road?

I dont believe that width comes into it. Check out this site

Wouldn't have thought there was one. I used to live in Devon and once the A379 was blocked because two lorries were trying to pass each other. That particular stretch of the A379 was particularly narrow, I once had to pull over to let a Woolworths lorry going the other way to get through. I now live on a B road which is much wider than the A379.

There probably is a minimum width (and I don't know what it is) for newly constructed or improved roads.


But it doesn't apply to existing roads - some of which are in fact not wide enough for two lanes of ordinary traffic in places.

What a stange web site, still I've just managed to waste half hour looking at it.
