short trip to italy

I want to take my girl on a long weekend break to italy..any suggestions on an interesting city to explore ?

Rome is wonderful - needs at least 4 /5 days though if it is a first visit as there is so much to see.

Florence is lovely too and although there is lots to see its easier then Rome - and she will love the shops!!

Genoa isn't on the main tourist route but it's a lovely city to explore. The old city is outstanding but the more modern part is also well worth a look (if only for the great shopping and restaurants).

More importantly, Genoa is a superb base for exploring the Italian Riviera. There are frequent (really cheap) trains along the coast to beautiful resorts like Rapallo.

Venice is beautiful, very romantic and lovely. We went to Sorrento last year and it was brilliant, prob better for a bit longer than a weekend though.

Florence,wins hands down,lots to see and do,and very romantic,so much so i proposed there,and i did not start out with that idea in mind
