Is it possible to travel from South Wales to Sligo travelling by rail and ferry and booking it on a return ticket?

you can go by coach too. slatterys used to go there get coach to dublin and then train to sligo slatterys used to run out of victoria bus station london i know they used to go all over wales picking people up before we got on ferry,good luck on the irish sea.
assuming "south Wales" to mean Cardiff or Swansea, you can go Fishguard-Rosslare-Dublin-Sligo, or Holyhead-Dublin-Sligo; the journey time is 14-16 hours, give or take. A through ticket can be purchased for the Holyhead route, and maybe for the Rosslare route too, but you'll need to check with your local station.
