Coal Tits Eyeing Up Entrance To Nest Box

Hi all. This morning I noticed a couple of Coal Tits eyeing up the entrance to my garden nesting box. They would stay at the entrance and look around inside. Is it normal for them to be searching for a suitable nesting site this time of the year?

Lucky you......I think they are looking for a roosting place for the winter. Coal tits do this.

I have my nest boxes cleaned and in place hoping for residents here...no luck so far....enjoy your visitors...x

Blue tits seem to do this all year round,I think mine is being used for overnight accommodation,I watched 2 go in when it was getting dark the other day

Great!, hopefully they're checking it out as a potential nesting site for the spring or maybe as a suitable roost, as suggested.

I seen some activity near my boxes too, blue tits in my case.

That often happens doesn't it, Chip.....roost in the winter and use it for nesting in the summer......bliss....x

I always think, keep the birds interested, by offering food, especially during the colder months, and your kindness will not go unforgotten and they will come back time and time again.

Thanks guys. Have a lot of them and blue tits coming and going during the day. I put up nyger seed feeders and already Goldfinches are using them every day.

I've put up my sparrow nest box today, risking life and limb up a ladder screwing it to the house wall underneath the eaves.
