The hijab I haven't got a problem with (unless it is worn through no choice of the wearer) But no ... no burka.

The whole point about this is that it is a complete 'non-story'.

You might as well say that the police service is 'considering' applications from men from Mars - it doesn't mean any are going to be signed up!

In the interest of seeing to be fair, rather than saying 'Hell will freeze over before an officer wears a burka as part of the uniform ... , which in fact is the reality of situation, but looks heavy-handed and unsympathetic, what they say is 'We'll discuss it ...' which translates as 'Anyone think a police officer in a burka is a good idea raise your hand ... no-one? ... good. Next." And that's the end of it.

The media see a chance to whip up a frenzy and go for it, you simply have to look behind the wording, and you can see that there is nothing here at all.
