Cannot Be Named Because Of Age ????
Today, two 15 year old "children" were found guilty of murdering a mother and her daughter. The male admitted guilt from the start, the girl was found guilty at her trial. Why is it that they cannot be named ? Surely they give up all rights to anonymity when they they commit the crime ! As far as I'm concerned, it should be name and shame. The law in this case is an ass !!

Does it affect you in either case?
Obviously it directly affects the families of the criminals, who are not guilty under the law, and deserve to have their anonymity protected, which is the point behind the legislation.
It obviously bothers you considerably - are you willing to elaborate on your reasons?

Why the inverted commas? Horrific though their crimes are, they do not catapult the convicted into adulthood - they are children.

That rather presupposes that they would be 'shamed' by their identities being revealed - and since neither have even hinted at remorse, that notion looks unlikely to fly.
These are obviously deeply disturbed children who are more than likely going to spend their lives, or a large proportion of them, incarcerated, so the idea that 'shame' is relevant or appropriate does lose traction.
Their anonymity does spare their families the attentions of trolls and media, they obviously have enough to cope with right now.

It IS possible the restrictions will be lifted at sentence. Much depends on the circumstances - there may well be siblings etc. ##
Correct barmaid, that's what was said on the news last night.
They sat and watched a horror movie downstairs, after they murdered the mother & daughter!!
Something's not right somewhere!
