OK landline ... I think exchanges are to do with area - so my exchange is 681 and that is 1000 numbers all clustered around a few streets.....
bear us we have 682, 683 and 4
hc4361, are you sure, I moved 500 yards, I couldn't keep my number and my sister moved even less distance and she couldn't keep hers, both instances staying within the same exchange, both moves were last year.
"If you're moving home within your own telephone exchange area you may be able to take your current phone number with you. There's no charge for this service."
We moved house back in April, only went approx ½ mile along the road (better sea view and a bungalow) BT disconnected old address Friday lunchtime, when we got up on Saturday we had been connected to our previous number, Internet was up and running, no problem at all.
Ginge' we were 'out of service' for 3 days in Sept, turns out someone had driven in to one of their roadside boxes, annoying, but not their fault.
Generally we have had good service from them.
