I thought it was the most harrowing thing I have seen on TV for a long time. How did they make Sheridan Smith look so overweight, and what a very good actor she is .
Its a difficult question when any TV program is made of an event that is so recent. But considering all the publicity at the time, I would have thought this, at least, tries to explain to Shannon and others, what actually happens. She is now 18 and can't be protected from the awful event for ever.
I enjoyed it immensely. Very good acting. Sheridan Smith was almost unrecognisable. Yes, it was depicting something terrible which happened very recently but in my opinion was not incredulous. If there had been a fatality then it would be a completely different story and not re-enacted in a BBC drama.
I said elsewhere that I admire Sheridan Smith greatly and will normally watch any programme if she is in it.
I am not watching Moorside, despite the excellent reviews and Sheridan's thoughts on it, because I strongly feel that Shannon was exploited for money by her mother and now the Beeb is doing the same.
We all know the story, we don't need it dramatised for our entertainment.
The writer Neil McKay also gave us Appropriate Adult about Fred West, See No Evil about the Moors Murders, and This is Personal: the Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper.
I thought it was excellent and SS's performance was brilliant. I know it must be hard for the friends and family dredging it all back up again and what poor Shannon was subjected to. Something like this can go to the back of the mind but will never leave you.
Gemma Whelan is currently in Game of Thrones if anyone is interested.
