What do you have with yours, if you have them?
They were on offer in Costco and given our family Swedish connection, and the fact we've never had them, I'm going to give them a go this week.
I'm going to make a savoury cream sauce and add a bit of either cranberry or blackcurrant jam, and serve it on top of mash...unless someone comes up with something better.

Nice sauce here, cream, mustard and a bit of honey too - be nice on buttered noodles.

I do mine with a gravy and cranberry sauce and mashed spuds.

Hmm, himself rather fancies that one mamya.
As there are enough meatballs in the pack to feed the entire Swedish army, I think Islays (which sounds very similar to the one I was contemplating) can wait till next time.
Thanks.
I make spaghetti and a spicy tomato and onion sauce, fry off the meatballs separately and serve on top of spag. and sauce, sprinkled with grated cheese. Delish!

Remember the old song 'On top of spaghetti, All covered with cheese, I lost my poor meatball, When somebody sneezed.. It rolled off the table and onto the floor - and then my poor meatball, Rolled out of the door!' Lidl do good Swedish meatballs by the way. :)

Ha ha, yes, I do remember that ditty.
Yours sound more like Italian meatballs J, which I've made before. These are Swedish (not sure what the difference is) and don't seem to be served in a tomato sauce.
I get mine from Ikea and pop them in the freezer. My Co-op also sells them, although they are British-made.

Very, very yummy !
Question Author
Yes but what do you have with them Mikey? Are the ones you get from IKEA just the meatballs or do they come in a sauce?
I have never bought any meatballs, neither Swedish nor Italian.

If I did buy them, could I bake them in the oven rather than frying them?

I hate frying things.
Question Author
I'm not going to fry them Tilly, just bubble them in the sauce to heat them through as they're already cooked. I'm pretty sure you could cook raw ones in the oven rather than fry them though, a bit like cooking burgers in the oven.
The ikea ones are just the meatballs but you can buy the powder to make the sauce as well as the ligonberry jam.
Question Author
We had a jar of homemade lingonberry jam once, it was lovely.
I might try them oven baked and then put them in a sauce for the last ten minutes or so. Thanks, Eth.
What makes a meatball Swedish rather than normal/non-Swedish ?
OG...Swedish Meatballs tend to be a mixture of pork and beef.

Next time you are near an Ikea, try them !
I have yet to find good shop bought meatballs, we now make our own, so much nicer!!

Some great recipes out there!!
Question Author
So do Italian ones, Mikey, in all the recipes I've seen anyway.
As far as I can make out, Swedish ones appear to rely on breadcrumbs to bulk them up.
Thanks for all your answers.
I usually do this recipe. Sometimes replacing the meatballs with the premade ones. It's a favourite in this house.

We've just had them in the mustard sauce in mamyas link and they were delicious. We had mashed potato and fine green beans with them. Very nice and highly recommended.
Thanks mamya x
