I think they are quite common but if you suffer from them a lot than it may be wise to speak to a GP. In pregnant women they can be a sign of pre-eclampsia and are often a sympton of migraines too.
I have them really bad. Once while having an eye examination, the optician commented on me having a lot of them, I agreed and then he said "but they do go" my little face lit up and I replied "do they"? He then said yes, once your eyes focus on something, they settle down to the bottom of your eye (as soon as you move your eyes again they shoot back up into your line of vision) Doh!!!! I thought he meant that they can be gotten rid of. They are a nuisance.
only when im tired, im a retained firefighter an if ive been on a shout all night and work the next day you can pretty much guarentee (oops) a migrane the next day
I have loads of floaters. I am very short-sighted and have astigmatism and I think this is the reason why. I asked my optician about it and she said there's no way to get rid of them.
Id say speak to your optitian then I doubt its anything to be concerned about but best to ask a professional. I can only speak from personal experience.
Floaters are bits of the inside of the eye which have become detached. They are usually harmless (unless there is a sudden increase). I don't think you can get rid of them.
hey there, just to say i have these in one eye. Its very annoying. I went to the doctor who sent me to the opticion and got full check and then at the end he said this is what they are but also said was something to do with age?
I have had several of these for a number of years. Some of the tiny ones have slowly disintegrated but others have unfortunately remained and my optician suggests that they will probably now be permanent. I believe that some of mine were caused by fairly violent coughing and sneezing atacks which cause small bits of membrane to break away.
