Our view of Mr Trump (or indeed that of US citizens) is not the issue here. He was elected by due process and near enough 50% of Americans who voted chose him. The USA is not some remote dictatorship like North Korea where its people are oppressed and controlled by a dictator. It is a democratic nation, one of the UK's most important allies and trading partners and not a country we should have any desire or need to fall out with. Just as the Queen travels on State visits as the Monarch (and not as Elizabeth Windsor)so the President travels as Head of State of the US (not as Donald Trump). That position should be respected for what it is and not denigrated because the current incumbent is not particularly popular among some. People are entitled to disagree with, be unhappy with or just not comfortable with democratic decisions. They are not entitled to insist that courtesies that would normally be afforded to any President of the USA should somehow be parked because they don't like the present holder of that office.
