Been having night sweats for about 6 weeks and in the mornings. Age 47 could this be the Menopause so sudden? Periods went from 28 to 23 days for the last 3 years but this month nothing yet at 33 days... definitely not pregnant. Advice please? x These night sweats are awful !

its quite possible, i feel sorry if it is, being a woman in many instances is not much fun. Wear cotton clothing where possible, that may sound and seem obvious, but anything to keep cool.
it doesn't really come on all that suddenly but that was my experience, alas it can go on for some time. A timely visit to see a sympathetic GP, to talk over what you are going through.
It can happen suddenly, my periods simply stopped - no tapering off or anything.

Thankfully I had no nasty symptoms either, you can get help of course if they're making your life miserable.
Very much sounds like it, same age I started. You will probably find that you start missing a an odd month, then they will get fewer. A visit to the GP would be a good idea, he should do a blood test to check an discuss HRT with him.

Oh ! Thanks for your comments. Just thought it would be more gradual for some reason = The night sweats are very unsettling... feels like a hot coal burning from within.... bedroom fan on full blast then ! Love being a woman ! x

def visit gp, they can do blood test and give you good advice on HRT
Looking back my first menopause symptom was a 30 day straight bleed....that kind of focusses the mind! You do get used to the sweats and flushes....I have had mine for around 20 years now and they are like old friends.
There's a funny cartoon in the Guardian magazine this weekend. A woman on the phone saying, 'I'm just in the middle of the menopause, can I call you back in about five years?'

It made me laugh.
Mine happened very sudden about the age of 42. Periods stopped and I started getting hot flushes and night sweats that lasted about 6 - 7 weeks. Besides that no other symptoms.
I had the peri menopause at about 47...periods all gone by the time I was 52 or so. No night sweats or hot flushes.
I was just moody as hell.
I to was very similar o Ummmm, also at a 'young' age.
There's no hard and fast rules with the menopause, it affects everyone differently - it can be early or late, it can be mild or hell on earth. I was relatively late and it has been uncomfortable rather than hellish. Sadly I have heard of some women for whom the flushes never go away. Avoiding alcohol, chocolate and spicy food helps some - I can't say I've tried as that would just be miserable! There's plenty of info online, I recommend A Vogel's website, they are very good and go above and beyond recommending their own products.
My periods stopped around 37, no other symptoms like sweats etc so I assume that must have been it. It coincided with my father's death, I've always wondered if that experience brought it on.
Mine stopped at 50 years old but apart from night sweats, flushes - I pretty much walked it and am so glad I did cos I never realised that some women get it so hard.

My mother and sista was the same - all walked it. Sorry I can't advise Milliemoo except go to your GP. x

That would be good Ummmm......thanks for your replies x also been getting achin joints for over a year now... apparently another side effect oh joy ! Appreciate all these comments am learning from you all x
oh yes the joint aches.....and the dizziness....and the brain fog.....

I did try going almost completely sugar free and completely alcohol free for about a month. During that time, the sweetest thing I ate was raw carrot. I was delighted to find that it made no difference whatsoever. Neither did any of the herbal or complementary remedies. I was worse on HRT but that was the only option when I was going through it, and not to many varieties of that. What worked was wearing layers of clothing in natural fibres, keeping as cool as possible, drinking more water and having the occasional good swear.
Good luck and hope it is short-lived. I'm 68 and still hoping the sweats and burns will cease. On the PLUS side, my bone-density scan was great - due to my still having hormones. :) :( Take your choice. Can't be as bad as changing the bed every morning surely?
