Do others think that all dogs (apart from guide dogs obviously) should be completely banned from restaurants? I do and would avoid any restaurant that claims to be dog-friendly as these smelly creatures have no place near food.

Steg, I'm a little confused over why you weren't bothered when bitten by a dog in the pub, but would be if it had happened in a restaurant.
Well it was sloshed so he gave it some latitude.
Probs cause I don’t mind dogs being in pub( as long as they are accompanied by responsible adult)

Dogs in pubs is a different thing..no probs with that really as long as they are not Gnashers !!
Disagree. My dogs aren't smelly and just sit under the table.

People seem to have latched on to point that dogs smell whereas I have more far-reaching concerns than that. Why, for example, do dog-owners (in restaurants and/or elsewhere) think I want their dog to nuzzle me/lick me/jump up at me/bark at me (usually accompanied by the "he's only being friendly" - I don't want a b***** dog for a friend). I don't like uncontrolled kids in restaurants either but they're much better than dogs.

If I thought my dogs would nuzzle someone, bark, lick or jump at someone in a restaurant, I wouldn't take them. I don't think that's acceptable at all. That isn't a well behaved dog, that's an over excited, unsocialised dog and perhaps should have a bit more training before going into a restaurant. But when they sit under the table, don't beg, and simply have a nap I really don't see the problem.

People have a strange misconception that dogs are dirty, mine certainly aren't. And they certainly aren't a health hazard! If dogs were a health hazard why on earth would we have them in our homes?

Whilst I respect some people aren't dog people, if the restaurant allows dogs in, then in my eyes it's better for it. If you don't like it, eat elsewhere.

I'd be quite happy to eat in a restaurant that allows dogs.
Had to laugh at the delicate phraseology of Deskdiary @ 08:23.
Spath, all dogs should have a lead and collar on in public, I don't see why being in a restaurant should be any different. They absolutely should in my eyes. I wouldn't want a strangers dog begging at my table whilst I eat, that isn't acceptable - and I love dogs!

(Mine are only off lead when in dog walking areas, like the woods and fields etc, and they both have exceptional recall.)

These smelly creatures ? you need some attention to your olfactory organ yes you can get smelly dogs but dirty humans smell a damn sight worse,as for them being in restaurants a well behaved dog under the table causes no problem at all unlike screaming badly behaved human offspring
