Are You Proud Of Been A Uk Citizen

Personaly, I couldn't care less where I was born.
Though I must admit that I'm thankful that I wasn't born in the last century and stuffed up a chimney!
Think that I'm pretty lucky actually...

Standard scooter wear for the winter consisted as follows:
- One piece "thermal" combination underwear
- Pair of "Winciette" pyjamas
- Thick corduroy trousers (NEVER jeans)
- Thick "lumberjack" type shirt (done up to the neck)
- Thick crew-necked jumper
- Old school scarf
- Balaclava helmet
- Crash helmet
- Two pairs of socks (thin pair under, thick pair on top)
-"Desert" boots
- Two pairs of gloves (thin wool under, sheepskin on top)
- Parka (with removable woolen lining in place)
I fell into the sea from the sea wall at Canvey Island with all this lot on (except my crash helmet) and my mates had terrible trouble pulling me out. I had to ride home 40 miles (still wet through). My Parka took almost a week to dry out (Mum gave it a rinse to get the Thames Estuary out of it as best she could). Dad saw it hanging up but fortunately didn't make too much of an in-depth enquiry! I was necessarily hors de combat whilst it dried as I couldn't go out on my bike without it.
Carnaby Street wasn't really up to much. We might go there on a Saturday for a mooch round. Bit tatty really, looking back. "Lord John" was the place to get a decent shirt. "Tiles" club in Oxford Street occasionally on a Saturday night. (Kenny Everett DJ'd there once or twice). Fortunately I was only a tuppeny bus ride from there so no scooter (and three hundredweight of clothing) necessary. Some of my mates went to "Middle Earth" in Covent Garden. The place had a bit of a bad reputation and I never went there.
But I remember all this so, as the saying goes, I couldn't have been there!
Happy Days.

You can't get an SX in fully restored or "as new" condition for much under £10k now, tony. I saw one last year with all the "trimmings" (flyscreen, backrest, chrome panels, 12v lighting etc.) for a little north of £13k. You can get a rough runner for around £1,500.
About three years ago a friend of mine bought a restored Vespa SS180 (Vespa's "top of the range" IIRC) for £6,500.
I seem to recall I paid around £225 for my SX, new. This included an upgrade to 12v lighting. I only wish we'd had digital cameras then as I've no photos of my pride and joy. Regretfully some bar steward nicked it and I took the opportunity to make my way onto four wheels.

I'm very grateful for my good fortune in being born an Englishman at the time I was.
You don't have to go full-on Rhodes as in "the first prize in the lottery of life" to realise how lucky we are to enjoy this cultural inheritance.
Inherited fortunes, however lavish they may be, can, of course, be squandered.

If I remember rightly I paid £150 for mine ( four years old when I bought it ) the full monty, fly screen, chrome crash bars front and back, chrome spare wheel carrier, spot lights and of course a back rest. Have you seen the prices that TV 175's are fetching ?.
Same as you, wish I had thought to take some photo's ( although I thing some were taken outside of an old girlfriends house and she has them )
