What other things does the Moons gravity affect on Earth? Someone mentioned it could be linked to menstrual cycles, but if this is the case then how can some women who live together affect each others cycles? Are they defying gravity? (ps forgive my poor usage of affect and effect)

No, it's total rubbish. The moon's gravitational effects has nothing to do with the menstrual cycle.

A person with a mass of 75 kg weighs about 1/2 gram more on the side of the Earth opposite of the Moon than with the Moon overhead. This is the equivalent of a change in elevation (altitude) of about 20 meters near sea-level.

In contrast this same person weighs about 375 grams more at the North/South Pole than at the Equator.

The lunar and menstrual cycles are 4 weeks but there's no link.

And I bet this thing about women affecting each other's cycles is tosh as well. What' s supposed to happen? I've heard people say their cycles line up but there's always a chance this will happen anyway, menstruation isn't always a perfect 4-week cycle and with the odd day or two here and there it's not unlikely women will come into phase with each other.
