Nowadays, mobile has become a necessity. While it is also true that school kids are having bad effects because of the excessive use of mobile. But there are some students who use their phone in a right way. It is wrong to ban the mobile phone in school because of wrongdoing of one or two people. Within school hours or in the premises only the use of mobile should be prohibited.
My son's school (he is now Year 11), will not let you use them at all (including outside of lessons). He no longer bothers to take his phone, or if he does it is switched off any way. He doesn't seem to be adversely affected.

My daughter is a nursery teacher and she (and her colleagues) have to switch their mobile phones off during actual working hours. If that's the case in schools, then the same rules should apply to the pupils, imho.
