There would *need* to be customs posts, and there would therefore need to be people employed to manage them. I'm not entirely sure what you're driving at.
Nor me.
Of course it wouldn’t be ideal, due to the nature of the border, but all lorry routes could be covered as in the past. When you’d see lorries parked up on the border road to Newry for example.
On the subject of customs posts I remember one in Donegal. It was manned by a customs officer with a pet goose called Maggie. These days she’d be called Arlene perhaps - or Theresa.

What I'm driving at is quite simple and I don't know how much simpler I can put it, but I'll try. We are told there will be a need border controls. Let's forget who the individuals are that will do the work. Whoever they are they have to be authorised. So, since the Irish government has categorically stated that it will not implement border controls (and has said so without wavering throughout the past two years) and since the UK government has said likewise, who will? Or is one or both of them telling porkies?

We've heard of the need for them and we've heard that nobody is going to implement them. That's what I'm driving at.
