I don't know them - are they unique to a particular area of the country ?

They're the continental version of our chaffinch
You get quite a few migrating into the UK every year. This year seems to be a very good one.

I've only ever seen one once, in a farm hedgerow.
Brilliant Melv, well spotted. I've seen them only once in early 2006 in a garden which backed onto fields, feeding with other Chaffinches.
Would love to see them again but I'm too urban now I think.
What a gorgeous little bird. Never seen one myself.
